Portable Fire Extinguishers

Portable fire extinguishers are generally the first line of defense when fire breaks out at your workplace or in your home.

Anytime you detect a fire – or just the first signs of fire – you should immediately raise the alarm and make sure that the Fire Brigade are contacted. But until help arrives, a full, properly maintained fire extinguisher can help minimize damage to your business and injuries to your employees or customers.

Diskin Fire can supply the following comprehensive range of high quality, manufactured fire extinguishers:-

Water Fire Extinguishers – Water extinguishers are suitable for Class A fires caused by the combustion of solid materials, mainly of organic origin, such as : wood, paper, straw or textiles.

Foam Fire Extinguishers – Foam (or AFFF as they are sometimes known) extinguishers are ideal where both Class A & B fire risks exist, particularly B fires caused by the combustion of materials that liquefy such as petrol, solvents, oils, fats, paints and tar etc.

Carbon Dioxide Fire Extinguishers – Carbon Dioxide (or CO2 as they are usually known) extinguishers are suitable for Class B fire risks involving flammable liquids. They are also ideal for covering the risk of fires in electrical equipment, a great deal of which is found in most modern buildings.

Powder Fire Extinguishers – Dry Powder extinguishers are recommended for mixed fire environments because they cover Class A, B and C fires including flammable liquids and gases. Dry Powder is also safe (though not recommended) for use on fires involving electrical equipment. Also available is a special Class D Dry Powder Extinguisher which is suitable for fires involving flammable metals sometimes found in laboratories.

F Class Fire Extinguishers – F Class extinguishers are specifically designed to fight fires resulting from the over heating of cooking oils and fats in deep fat fryers. This extinguisant has the capability to fight fires in these fryers of up to 75 litres in volume.

Trolley Mounted Fire Extinguishers

Diskin Fire can supply 25, 50 and 100 litre / kg. capacity trolley mounted extinguishers in Water, Foam, Co2 or Dry Powder versions. These are nomally used in large manufacturing or maintenance facilities on ships or in airports.

Fire Blankets

Fire blankets are made of fire resistant materials. They are particularly useful for smothering fat pan fires or for wrapping round a person whose clothing is on fire. Diskin Fire only supply fire blankets conforming to British Standard BS EN 1869:1997. These blankets are also suitable for domestic use in the home. They will be marked to show whether they should be thrown away after use or used again after cleaning in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Fire blankets should be fitted in kitchens near an exit but definitely not too close to the cooker as it may not be possible to reach it in the event of a fire.

Fire Hose Reels

Diskin Fire hose reels are manufactured to BS EN 671-1 can be either manual or automatic and can be supplied in fixed, swivel, recessed or surface-mounted cabinet models.

Fire Hose Reels should be located in such a way as to provide a reasonably accessible and controlled supply of water to combat a potential fire risk. The length of a fully extended fire hose is between 18 and 36 meters with a 19mm Internal Diameter. These appliances are designed to deliver, as a minimum, 0.33ltrs of water per second. A control nozzle attached to the end of the hose enables the operator to control the direction and flow of water to the fire.

All fire hose reels come with a wall mounted, gate valve shut off device, a plastic or solid brass hose reel nozzle, and mounting bracket.

In the case of the ‘automatic’ type there is also a shut of valve that is opened by the running out of the hose causing the reel to revolve and open this ‘automatic’ valve. When used with an automatic fire hose reel the wall mounted ‘Gate Valve’ is always left in the ‘on’ position, leaving the operator to control the water flow by means of the nozzle at the fire.

With the ‘manual’ type the operator must turn on the wall mounted gate valve (which should always be in the ‘off’ position) before running out the hose to the fire.
